Frequently Asked Questions

When and where will the celebration be taking place?
The when? Sunday, May 2, 2010, from 4pm to 8:30pm. The where?  Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub, upstairs. (Event Location.)

What kind of reception will it be?
The reception is a standing “cocktail reception” with food, drinks, and dancing.

What is the best way to travel to the ceremony and reception?
You can travel via Metro (King Street stop, blue/yellow).  It is either about a 10 minute walk from the station, catch a cab ($6 or $7 fare), or take the free King Street Trolley.  The last option, however, only runs every twenty minutes.   You can also drive; there is plenty of parking in the neighborhood.  If you’re staying at the hotel, it’s a quick 3 minute walk down the street to the event.

Where do we park if we’re driving?
There is plenty of parking in the neighborhood. There are a number of pay parking lots that are all within a quick few minutes walk of Murphy’s.

Can I bring a guest?
Yes, each invited guest can bring one date, a plus one.  Make sure to let us know if you’re bringing a date when you RSVP so that we may have an accurate head count.

Are children allowed to attend?
Sadly, no.  It is an adult only reception.

What kind of bar will it be?
Open bar.  Please remember to bring your ID, as staff will need to verify that you’re of legal drinking age.

I’ve noticed I haven’t been asked for a food preference (chicken or beef, etc).  What do we have to look forward to, or is it going to be like high school with mystery meat?
A very good question.  The reason guests are not being asked for a meat or meal preference is because we will be having a cocktail reception with a cocktail appetizer buffet. We believe that we will have enough choices for even the pickiest of palettes!

I’m from out of town.  Where can I stay?
The hotel we will be using for our out of town guests (as well as ourselves!) is the Hotel Monaco located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. (Accommodations.)

What will be the level of the attire for the wedding?
Semi-formal.

Where are you two registered?
Macy’s, Williams-Sonoma, and Pottery Barn.  We also have a honeymoon registry available, as well.  (Registries.)

Can I address things to “Elizabeth Murphy” for wedding gifts?
While Liz will be changing her name, it is a process that cannot be completed until after the wedding (and honeymoon), and can take some time before becoming official.  (The process can be tedious and, well, Liz can be a little lazy.) In addition, she will actually be hyphenating her name to officially be “Elizabeth Moorehead-Murphy”.  Gifts with names on them are completely fine, but any sort of official document or package (anything that would need to be verified) should use her maiden name of “Moorehead”.
